For those of you who have heard about the controversial existence of the creature named “bigfoot“, we have just received some really interesting photos from one of the loggersite readers. The following article was written by that same reader. Loggersite has changed the format of the article just a little, but the content is just as it was written by our reader. This“bigfoot” link will give you some more details about the creature if you are unfamiliar with it. The blurry picture on that page has been around for a long time and I can remember seeing it as a kid. I can also remember it being one of the most disturbing photos I had ever seen. Do you believe in “bigfoot“? How about “bigfoot” in Pennsylvania? Keep reading………….
Loggersite, the sighting near Allemansville was just past the Wopsonnic Boyscout camp access road heading toward route 453, right were the guard rail ends. I live between Viola and Janesville. The attachments are of photos of tracks found outside of Clearfield past the airport. They were taken in 1985 by me personally as you can see with the aid of the standard rule they were quite large approx. 16″ long and 9″ inches across the toe area with a stride of about 72″. If you look closely you can see the imprint of the toe nail/claw.
This was in an area not being used or traveled by anyone as it was during the development of a mining permit in the area. I was able to back track the prints a short distance into the heavy brush that was trampled down and could plainly see mud from the foot prints on top of the weeds and brush.
I am not trying to change the subject with the introduction of these photos just merely trying to make a point that there are beings out there we have yet to encounter. Believing in a Cougar or Mountain Lion is a lot easier than believing in something like what I am showing you here.
Incidentally, about two months after these photos were taken similar prints were found in the snow in Maryland and were broadcast on TV; all measured the same. Again, the stride of these prints were approx. 72″
I think it is good for people to see what other have seen. As for the photos of the foot prints, they were as real as could be. I ran my hand over the track and felt the contour of the bottom of the foot. The ground on which they were made was not that soft as it had a firm base which made it more difficult to produce a print like these. Prior to this experience I too had serious doubts about rare and exotic creatures roaming the wilds. But when you give this subject serious thought and especially if you are a hunter or a person with knowledge of the woods you will then realize that there is a lot of territory out there in which these creatures can hide. The greatest fallacy of the human race is that we tend to believe that we know everything and everything must meet our beliefs in order to exist. We are not alone in this world!

Is Bigfoot Real or fake? For over 400 years, there have been reporting’s of a man like beast that is completely covered in hair.

I am glad to post my views and points in this blog!I hope you post again soon!
I liked this site very much, This blog has got all the useful stuff that I wanted to know about.Thanks.
That was a creative and most exellent article.
go up and read the toop of this page guss.
Chris; I do not recall anyone saying the bigfoot tracks were located at the Boyscout Dam. What may have happened is that if you read my first paragraph of the Bigfoot post, it describes the location of the sighting of the cougar. I think this was in response to your wanting to know where the cougar was sighted. I then went on to talk about the Bigfoot tracks I found in a remote section North of Clearfield.
who said they saw the bigfoot tracks near the boyscout dam?
You have a very good point there. I will have to agre that the top would come off if in fact there was an actual corpse found. But in reality, if someone would be lucky enough to find the remains of a dead Bigfoot it would be hard to expet that they would not want to be the first to show the world. The only way I can see this being kept secret is if some Government agent found one, sucuh as Game wardens or Park Rangers then there would be a possibility to have a cover up situation. Finding one wowuldbe a lot different than just seeing one, now there is evidence and you were the one finding it. All the ridicule would disappear and perhaps even hero status would be placed onto such person. But in all fairness your point is well taken and the consequences would most likely be as you state. Do you know something you are keeping to yourself??
Guss, what makes you think that there has never been a body found? Something like bigfoot would be one of those things that it’d be smarter for the states to keep quiet about. As long as most people are just guessing or dis-believing, then the woods are actually safer….. think about what would really happen if the existance of bigfoot was prooven…. you’d have a bunch of Hillbillys and Rednecks running around in the woods with guns all the time, and both people and animals would get shot by the hundreds or thousands. Plus, familys would stop camping, hikeing would end, even fishing would suffer. everyone going outdoors would want a gun with them just in case! so i can understand why no “Solid” evidence has ever surfaced….and in some ways, the same can be said about the Mt. Lions.
I will be the first to agree that there are somevery strange people out there seeking recognition for one reason or the other. But one has to be open minded on these issues and not let the bad apples out there cloud what facts already exist. Of course the sckeptic will all jump on eht band wagon of disbelief and criticize those who are sharing a very special event of their lives. In doing so, the honest one who has had a real experience know they will be the target of ridicule and scorn. Let us not be so arrogant to believe that we know it all and creatures like Bigfoot can not exist just because we have not seen them. Just about every year of late science has made discoveries of creatures thought to be long extinct as well as creatures of the deep never seen before. I had the gift of seeing foot prints of something that resembles Bigfoot, even before then I did not rule these creature out. But I realize that if Bigfoot is to be believed then there has to be clear photography or at best a corpse of one.
Is Bigfoot Real?

here’s another sub-idea for the elk one…. are elk crossbreeding with deer? I’ve heard rumors of some crossbreeds down around the johnstown area. Suposedly one was killed in buck season.
The elk is a great idea……I don’t know much about Cambria County but some of the elk near Sinnemahoning are almost like our friends. And I will also post an article where people can send in their trail cam pictures. They will have to be emailed to me and then I can post them. The blogging program will not allow commenters to post videos directly under comments. If someone loaded something too big, it would crash the blog. I always size the pics so they work. Going to be starting a store and a forum too once we get more traffic. Thanks for the ideas so far!
Logger, you should make a album for people to post all their trailcamera, and nature photos. and make it so that a caption can be displayed below the pictures stateing when and where the photo was taken.
true, although neither do black bears… i’ve been within 15 feet of bears and never had a problem (and have pictures to prove it)…. and been within 10 yards of a bull elk in the rut (again, pictures to prove it)…. but something about being up close with an animal that not much is known about, kinda seems foolish to me….lol
Majik,
From what I have observed about the speices it does not seem to be very aggressive. Those who have encountered the creature say that it does throw rocks and makes sounds to merely scare off the intruder humans. But when cornered or threatened who know what a creature of that size could or would do. I know one thing I would not want to be on the receiving end. In consideration of all that we have been told about Bigfoot, it seems to be a very reclusive and intelligent being. It would have to be in order to have existed this long without being caught of killed. There are many groups that hunt the creature, and most of these are educated people with Phds. Their committment to the study must be justified by some convincing evidence however slight. I willnot doubt any stated observation for I believe that there have been many more observations made than advertised. I know the redicule I received when I told people about the mountain lion sightng, a lot of people do not want to expose themselves to such treatment and I can not blame them either.
yea, and Mt. Lions are only the start… imagine if something like a bigfoot was finally completely prooven to exist. they have a much much larger home range from what the sightings suggest…. the existance of only one creature could shut down the businesses for whole states! Then there is the fear factor, who’d want to go deep in the wilderness and cut trees if it was known that some large creature was out there? and like a bear, you’d never know how it would react to people.
Majik,
You make a very good point on the outcome of admissions of a protected species in our vast forrest reserve. That is something I never gave thought to but being the capitalist that Harrisburg is full of it makes very good sense to deny any and all claims.
Majik
i mean come on…. i watched a show on the discovery channel where they were re-creating dinosaurs from chicken eggs… they gave a chicken teeth! they gave another one a dinosaur tail! …. and that was just the ones they actually showed… what about the ones they haven’t shown? Face it people, the government knows a hell of alot more about all this than they will ever tell…. and the PGC knows a hell of alot about our forests they they’ll never tell….
Interesting fact for you… Pa. gets most of it’s money from logging right? and logger, you can chime in anytime.. what happens to logging if a endangered species like a Mt. Lion is found to exist in an area? and if it’s found that there are Mt. Lions spread out all over the state? It would completely shut down the logging business!
people say that bigfoot researchers are crazy… and ufo researchers are crazy… and ghost hunters are crazy…. well in my oppinion, the people who think they know everything are the real Crazy ones……………………… i mean, if you really think about it, bigfoot makes sence. I knew a child when i was growing up who had a desiese where he grew long black hair all over his body. and there was nothing they could do to stop it. now what would the people back in the salem witch trial days have done with him? wouldn’t people like him have ran away into the woods to live as hermits? and over time, wouldn’t they have prettymuch become more animal than human?
and ghosts make sence from a religious standpoint. In the bible it says that no one is in heaven since the day of final judgement hasn’t come yet….
and ufo’s make sence. are we really that blind that we don’t see all the planets that are out there? or are we dumb enough to think that we are the only ones who have figured out how to fly into space?
that’s a sad story about the pilot. i’ve only ever flown 2 times myself, and both were in a big airliner… but back on the bigfoot subject, i’ve no doubt that unknown animals exist. and i’m sure that i’ve walked within 50 yards of things that i didn’t know were there…. i’ve caught glimpses of things and i did see one thing outright a few years back, but both my sister and I won’t really talk about it due to the crazyness of what we saw…. I mean, even now we keep telling ourselves that it couldn’t exist! even though we both saw it less than 15 feet in front of my car. and even though a man who lived right there showed me around 20 poliroids of 2 that he’d killed…. But anyway, i keep an open mind on what might be out there.
Pennhiker,
Heart trouble is what ended my flying, after my first open heart surgery I did not feel the expense of an annual physical which no insurance covers was something I could afford. So I ended my flying with an Ultra light which was not such a good idea either. The damn frame broke twice on landing and tossed me backwards and under the prop. fortunately no injuries but one hell of a thrill. It is like being shot and at missed. But the tragedy at Black Forrest was a terrible experience, vetran pilots refused to fly their planes out of there after witnessing Jerry crash. It bothered me as well but we had to get out of there one way or the other. I flew three out with me and returned with three other pilots to retrieve the planes. The strip there is good but has it limitations, you got to keep your head in the game. It is something hard to forget.
Gus, that was one story I can relate to. I was a lineman for an FBO back in the ’80’s and have seen my share of tragedies. The worst being when our King Air slammed into the side of a mountain on final approach to the airport in St.Mary’s. My boss and our chief helo pilot were both killed. Up until then I flew every chance I got but not anymore.
Logger,
Yes, it was a great place to eat. We had a terrible experience there back in the sixties, a few of us pilots flew up ther from Mechanicburg airport for a Breakfast Fly in. We all arrived safely and had a terrific breakfast. The luck turned bad for a friend of mine who was flying his Mooney might, a very small ine seater aircraft. On take off Jerry did not clear the tree for some reason and crashed. The mooney had its gas tank mounted behind the head of the pilot, upon impact the tank became dislodged and broke Jerry’s neck, killing him instantly. A few of the pilots then refused to fly their planes out of there, so it ended up that we made several trips in and out of there to retrieve all the planes.
That sure is beautiful country there and I am sure ther are many eyes watching you when you go through the area.
Guss, the Black Forest area brings back some good memories. We harvested a DCNR state timber sale about a mile from the Black Forest Inn a few years back. We used to stay at the Black Forest Inn because we traveled so far from home. Hunted bear and deer down there. It was some very nice country. Lots of laurel there for the bears to hide in. We were cutting soft maple for the DCNR. Slate run road ended at the Slate Run Manor. What a great place to eat…….and the waitresses were pretty nice too
Majikman,
That is the point I was making exactly when I posted the photos of the big foot prints photos. There are definately unknown creatures we have yet to encounter as evidenced by the foot prints. Cougars are a native species to this area so why is it so hard to accept that they stiil exist here? Some close their eyes and minds to the unusual, but I have learned in sixty six years of life to keep an open mind and learn from all experiences.
You are saying a mothful there! The average hunter does not venture far from his vehicle, some do not even get out of it. I have flown this area landing at Cherry Springs and the old Black Forrest Inn. Not someplace one wants to have an emergency landing. the rare and occasional hiker that seeks out such places have it all to themselves and what ever else lives there. I have spent several nights alone hiling and fishing through the Grand Canyon of PA. Night time comes quick in the canyon and with it sounds that raises the hair on ones neck. Many Bobcats exist there as well as other creatures. But that area is not in itself as remote as the adjoining forrest lands.
why is it easier for people to believe in bigfoot then it is for them to believe in Mt. Lions here in Pa.? I mean, I KNOW that Mt. Lions are here as i’ve seen a couple… And i think it’s very possible for a creature such as bigfoot to exist… especially when even the indians have ledgends about them…. And you’re very right pennhiker, people do tend to stay close to areas they know…. Even i am guilty of that. I stay where i know exactly how to get back out before dark…. So the likelyhood of seeing something like that is very slim. but then again, i personally don’t really want to run into something like that when i’m alone in the woods anyway! I’d hate to kill it, and i’d really hate to be killed by it. so why not avoid it if possible…..
I agree Gus, there are vast amounts of land in this area that are sparsely populated or visited. I laugh at the often quoted “600,000 hunters would have seen something” because in my expereince, many hunters do not venture too far from forest roads or ATV trails. Anyone who has flown over the Moshannon State Forest, ANF and the Quehanna Wild area will see that someone (or thing) could stay hidden for an indefinite amount of time.
Pennhiker;
The area in which the photos were taken is not all that far from Rockton, certainly not far for a creature with a walking six foot pace. If you are familiar with that area you would know that it would not be hard to go undetected for a long time. Just draw a line on a map in a NNE direction all the way to the Adirondacks. Not too many human inhabitants on or near the line. In discussion with aprofessor from Washington state to whom I sent the photos he speaks to the intelligence of Bigfoot, in that the creature when alerted hides behind brush and trees even in total darkness. So with an animal with those instincts it is not going to be easy to see.
There have been many reports of a creature in the Rockton Mountain area. I’ve spent many hours in this area and have never seen anything like that, but I do believe people are seeing something out of the ordinary. Google “”CLEARFIELD COUNTY BIGFOOT REPORTS” for a link.
well there ya go… i mean, if they do exist, then they would be damn near as smart as a human. and they’d know the woods better than any human… so for them to keep invisible would not be that hard. plus if they have a good sence of smell, then they wouldn’t even get too close to our trail cameras very often, as we always end up leaving scent behind. I personally believe in the POSSIBILITY that they exist….
There was an incident that happened several years ago in this area where a man who preferred to live alone back in against the mountain. There he built himself a pretty nice cabin and was doing well. Several of us would go back and bring a six pak along to enjoy a visit from time to time, but never anything unusual was said. That was until two friends made a visit late one rainy summer evening, there they found our friend setting at his table shaking like a leaf, they also notice two bullet holes in the door. When they ask him what happened, he said he was setting at the table with his back to the door and at first he thought he smelled the odor of Sulphur, the smell got stronger and stronger, then he said he felt as though someone was watching him. He slowy turned toward the door and through the small glass saw a large hairy creature moving, he grabbed his rifle and shot two times not knowing if he hit the creature or not but scarred what ever it was away. The two visitors asked if he thought it was a bear and he said no, it was bigger than a bear. The three of them went outside into the rain with a falshlight and to there surprise they found where something very large ran through the Hemlock breaking branches six and seven feet high as he went. The direction was toward the stream and that is where they gave up. To this day not much has been said about the incident but it was back several years ago when stories of Bigfoot was not that common. They really did not know what the large smelly creature was but according to what has been learned it may have been a visit from Bigfoot. Those who have experienced such a visit comment on the smell, some say rotten eggss, some say sulphur which is very similiar.
When I was first told of the story I laughed at them, but allthree got very pissed at me so from then on I kept my comments to myself. I truly did not believe what they were telling me but I left it at that. Now I have a very different opinion, the tracks found in the remote area of Clearfield sort of convinced me that other beings exist that we do not know or refuse to accept. When the photos were taken, I called the Clearfield paper and reported the incident as a strange occurance, not wanting to commit to a Bigfoot sighting, the reporter said that if I did not tell him what this was about he could not come out. When I did explain the reason for the call, he readily agreed tocome out. He stated that about ten days prior he got a call from a man in Olanta that saw a very large being walking upright along the edge of the timber. The reporter had a good laugh about it and did nothing more to investigate. In observance of the tracks he stated that now he was sorry for not following up on the call. So there you go, we see things, hear about incidents and still we do not believe until we actually come face to face with the unknown.
well, as far as bigfoot goes, i have only a childhood experiance in southern Alabama. but being that i was only around 8 years old at the time, it could have easily been a mis-identification on my part. so till i can see something now that i’m an adult, i remain open minded on the possibility.
I remember 30 years ago my younger brother ask me if I wanted to go with him and set a couple fox sets. While he was preparing some bait I looked in the back of his truck and seen a pair of black army boots with a large set of carved wooden feet hooked to them. I was sworned to secrecy that night, he and his friend would walk through wet areas just to see the reaction.
